On March 2, 2023, Thiranun "Tyra" Arunwattanakul, Chief Operating Officer of MONIX, was honored to receive an invitation from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Thailand to participate in a sharing session celebrating the first anniversary of the Leading Women Fund in Thailand. Other distinguished guests included Nivene Albert (UNHCR Deputy Representative in Thailand), Waewwan Gunnanthorn (CEO of Rosegold Thailand and Chairwoman of the Leading Women Fund in Thailand), and Preeyamol Thanavisut (Managing Director of Web Publishing Co., Ltd. (HiSoParty magazine and HiSoPartyofficial.com)).
Empowering Refugee Women
The first anniversary of the Leading Women Fund in Thailand was a celebration of the achievements made in empowering refugee women. The fund has made significant progress in supporting women-led projects, and its impact has been felt across communities in Thailand. The network comprises 30 members and distinguished members, each generously volunteering their time to achieve a common goal of building a better life for refugee women.
The event brought together various stakeholders, including UNHCR staff, representatives from the private sector, and media reporters. The participants discussed the importance of empowering women and girls, and the role that the fund has played in supporting refugee women. It was heartwarming to see the incredible impact the fund has made in empowering refugee women.
Expanding a Network of Thai Women Fundraising
In 2022, the UNHCR launched the Leading Women Fund in Thailand in collaboration with the chairwoman, distinguished members, and media partners. The initiative seeks to broaden a network of Thai women who fundraise to support single Syrian refugee mothers in Jordan. Not only does the fund provide much-needed financial assistance, but it also offers a platform for refugee women to share their stories and advocate for their rights.
During the event, Tyra shared her experiences, which showcased the transformative impact of the Leading Women Fund in Thailand. These stories of resilience and determination were inspiring and gave hope for a better future for all women and girls, regardless of their circumstances.
“Throughout the year, I made new friends with many women entrepreneurs from different industries, and we exchanged new ideas and perspectives. I then realized the importance of joint efforts to build a stronger humanitarian network. Unquestionably, women’s power can make a positive change and benefit society and other people.” stated Tyra.
